The Eightfold Anointing is a physical exercise of anointing your body with fragrant olive oil as you repeat the declarations below. It represents the exciting spiritual reality that as a born-again believer in Jesus Christ you are set apart for God and the consecrated life!
You anoint yourself as a sign that you are immersing yourself into the likeness of Christ as you grow ever closer to Him, because, the Bible says,
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT).
Because you do not belong to yourself, you glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. You have been set apart to be like Jesus today.
“For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters” (Romans 8:29 NLT).
Every morning, in acknowledgement of my death to self and my anointing to be like Jesus, set apart from the world, I anoint myself with fragrant olive oil. I recall that I have died to the flesh and come alive in the Spirit, and my life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3.) I am now dedicated to God.
I am no longer my own. I was bought with the price of Christ’s blood. (Acts 20:28.)
Mouth. I anoint my mouth for words of life because death and life are in the power of the tongue. Proverbs 18:21. With my mouth I shall decree a thing, and it shall be established. Job 22:28. I will speak no idle words, because Jesus said that by my words I will be justified and by my words I will be condemned. Matthew 12:36-37. I anoint myself so that my words will be acceptable to God. Psalms 19:14. That they will bless, and not curse. That I will represent Jesus in what I say, but never misrepresent Him. 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 That I will speak the Word and live the Word that I speak. James 2:14. That I will pray continually, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, so His presence will be always with me. John 15:7.
Eyes. I anoint my eyes so that I may see Jesus! Hebrews 2:9. That I have vision to see into the spirit world. 1 John 4:1. That I may see the destiny of God. That I may see by revelation the will of God and the ways of God. John 7:17. That I will see what He sees from heaven. That I will see people not where they are, but where He has ordained them to be.
Ears. I anoint my ears so that they will be open to God. Psalm 40:6. That I will hear His voice. John 10:3. That my ears will be sensitive to spiritual things. 1 Corinthians 2:13. That I will become pregnant in the womb of my ears with the seed of vision for myself, my family, and the generation. Isaiah 66:9.
Nose. I anoint my nose so that I will have discernment, wisdom, and judgment in my relationships with others and know what is right before the Lord. Christ is made unto me wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:30. If I lack wisdom, I will receive it from the Lord. James 1:5.
Feet. I anoint my feet that I might walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Galatians 5:16. That I may walk in His footsteps. 1 Peter 2:21. That I may walk with the weight of glory in my life. 2 Corinthians 4:17. That my footsteps might leave an imprint that the generation can follow and my walk would be pleasing to God, Colossians 1:10, in lowliness and meekness. Ephesians 4:1-2. That my life might be modeled after. 2 Thessalonians 3:9. That I would not walk in any place or destiny that is not ordained for me. That my walk and my lifestyle would take me into His perfect will forever. Colossians 1:9-10; Hebrews 13:21.
A Man's Journey with God Seminar Edition is Bishop Wellington Boone's empowerment method for men to grow in spiritual strength and maturity. This 464-page wealth of introductory content on the Christian life includes a personal 30-day Consecration Journal based on Bishop Boone's more than four decades of training men.
Bishop Wellington Boone has taught this generation of Christians how a daily Eightfold Anointing of yourself brings you closer to God. God spoke to Moses to anoint Aaron for his priestly office and dress him in new garments. Likewise, when you anoint yourself daily at eight points of your body you are consecrating yourself for the Lord’s service every day. You are allowing God to dress you in new spiritual clothing that represents the new position that He is giving you. As Bishop Boone preaches this message, the audience's engagement with his power-packed words previews the impact that this teaching has had on their lives to this day.
Eightfold Anointing #1—Personal Daily Anointing to Live for God Buga! Buga! is an expression from Ghana, West Africa, that means “Serious! Serious!” Ever since he first heard those words, Bishop Boone has used that statement to challenge himself and others to go to another level of Christ-likeness.
